The digital switchover will start to affect Cambridge next year when traditional analogue television signals will be switched off.
Sadly, the City Council has stopped maintaining the aerials and won’t upgrade them for many council tenants and leaseholders unless they are in sheltered housing or buildings of three storeys or more.
To make matters worse, people affected are likely to have to ask permission from the council as well as getting planning permission if they want to upgrade their aerials.
Conservative activist, Andy Bower says:
“If the council doesn’t want to pay for new aerials it should at least help tenants make the upgrade. The planning situation is complex and in many cases a communal aerial would be best. The council should organise this.”
